Time Loop

Lately, I've had the unsettling feeling that I'm going in circles. In the words of Trent Reznor, every day is exactly the same. Mind you, I'm the type of person that likes the security of a routine. Anxiety is minimized when I can anticipate and plan each day accordingly, from meetings to assignments to the timing of traffic lights on my commute. And every day is unique, but weeks tend to be the same. Are we having spaghetti or some other pasta for dinner? It must be a Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Chicken? Tuesday it is. One could argue the past 11 months have had record changes for me. New job. New car. New gym. The places are new, but the routine is familiar. I get up. I go to work. I work out. I come home. I eat dinner. I watch a movie or whatever television shows are on during the television season. I blog. I sleep, and it all starts over again. Band gigs break up the routine on the weekend, but with a few exceptions most of those are the same ones I played last year, and the year before that, and so on for decades. I definitely make time when I can to unwind with friends, whether taking in a movie, enjoying drinks at a happy hour, or just hanging out. I guess with an overly analytical mind like mine, it's easy to step back now and then and be bored with the big picture that is Life. Aging destroys any romanticized ideas and false expectations television and movies promised us in our youth. Every day is different, in subtle ways. Stepping too far back is like regarding the Earth from space; those land masses might look the same but they're not. I'm not stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day time loop. That notion is just crazy.
